Pouting (Trisopterus luscus)

Bib, Whiting pout

Pouting are small, slender fish with a grey-brown back and pale underside. They have a small chin barbel, similar to cod, and a slightly rounded body. Typically growing up to 30cm, pouting have soft, white flesh with a delicate, mild flavour.

Pouting are found in coastal waters over rocky and sandy seabeds, often around reefs and wrecks. In Cornwall, they are commonly caught in inshore waters as part of mixed fisheries, particularly by trawlers and smaller boats.
